The Yomiuri Shimbun The Liberal Democratic Party marks the 60th anniversary of its founding on Nov. 15. After twice descending into opposition status, the LDP has now formed a ruling coalition with Komeito and is enjoying a “one strong” situation compared to the other parties. However, there can be no room for optimism within the LDP, as if it had thoroughly regained the public’s trust. The LDP should instead be well aware that a significant portion of its support is passive, resulting simply from the poor performance of the opposition parties.
